Welcome to Spotlight on the Stars, a blog series where we shine a light on the people who make our community—and our company—truly exceptional. In this edition, we’re thrilled to feature Meg McCray of The Agency, a standout real estate professional whose passion for people, place, and purpose sets her apart. Known for her deep local knowledge, warm approach, and unwavering dedication to her clients, Meg doesn’t just help people buy and sell homes—she helps them find where they belong. Whether she’s navigating international negotiations or enjoying a Sunday boat ride with her family, Meg brings heart, insight, and integrity to everything she does. Let’s get to know her a little better.
The Agency: What excites you about real estate, and what are some of your best qualities as an agent?
Meg: Real estate has always felt like the perfect blend of my passions—people, homes, design, and community. I genuinely love helping people find more than just a house; I love helping them find a place where they truly belong. What keeps me inspired is the opportunity to guide people through such an important chapter of their lives. Every client, every home, every journey is different—and that keeps the work fresh, meaningful, and incredibly rewarding.
The Agency: Do you have any specialized/local knowledge that will benefit your clients?
Meg: Absolutely—and it's one of the biggest strengths I bring to my clients. I have deep, first-hand knowledge of this community because I'm not just a local agent—I'm an active part of it. I serve on a local board, my kids attend both public and private schools here, and I'm deeply involved in youth sports and nonprofit work. That gives me a well-rounded understanding of what life is really like in different parts of the area.
I also have strong connections with local builders and trusted tradespeople, which is a huge asset for clients interested in new construction, renovations, or even just quick updates before listing. Whether you're looking for a neighborhood that fits your family's lifestyle, a school community that supports your values, or reliable resources to help you improve or maintain your home, I'm able to offer real, actionable insight. My goal is always to help clients make decisions with confidence—because they're not just buying a property, they're planting roots.
The Agency: What's the most unique or memorable property you've ever sold?
Meg: One of the most memorable deals I've handled was an off-market waterfront property in Habersham. My clients were actually abroad in Australia when the opportunity came up, and 99% of the transaction was negotiated through email and text—across not just time zones but even different days! I was able to secure a full-ask offer and negotiate a leaseback to accommodate their travel schedule so they could return home with plenty of time to pack up. They had left for Australia without any intention of selling and came back a month later, ready to close. It was a great example of how creative strategy and clear communication can turn an unexpected opportunity into a seamless success.
The Agency: What's one tip for making a house feel like "home" right after moving in?
Meg: I always encourage my clients to live in the space for at least six months—if circumstances allow—before making any major changes. Taking that time helps you learn how the home functions for your lifestyle and gives you a chance to connect with it on a deeper level. What may have worked in a previous home might not be necessary now, and a new space often brings new possibilities. Giving yourself that breathing room lets you make thoughtful choices and create a home that feels truly yours—not just aesthetically but emotionally too. It's not just about moving in; it's about settling in and making it home.
The Agency: What's your go-to way to unwind after a busy day of showings and closings?
Meg: After a busy day, I try to disconnect from work and fully step into my role as a mom and wife. I have four beautiful boys—they're my greatest motivation and the heart behind everything I do. One of our favorite ways to unwind is taking long walks together, just talking about our days. They ask me about mine, and I get to hear about theirs. It's a simple but meaningful way to reconnect, recharge, and remember exactly why I love what I do.
The Agency: What's your favorite way to spend a Sunday in the Lowcountry?
Meg: Sundays are all about family and relaxation for me. We start the day with church; then I spend some time resetting the home for the week ahead. If the weather's nice, we'll get out on the boat and cruise around the river—it's one of my favorite ways to unwind. We always end the day with our weekly Sunday Italian dinner, and it's a tradition I really look forward to. Sunday is definitely my favorite day of the week.
The Agency: What's your favorite thing about living in this area?
Meg: What I love most about living here is the small-town feel. It's such a close-knit and welcoming community. The beauty of the Lowcountry, with its gas lanterns, sprawling southern oak trees draped in Spanish moss, is something I never take for granted. Beyond the charm and natural beauty, there's also a strong sense of opportunity here—whether it's in real estate, local businesses, or simply finding a place to call home. It's a special place that truly feels like home.
The Agency: Complete this sentence: "Living in the Lowcountry wouldn't be the same without…
Meg: Gas lanterns and Spanish moss. The soft glow of the lanterns gives the area a timeless, charming feel, and the Spanish moss hanging from the trees adds to the Lowcountry's signature beauty. It's actually what drew me in from day one—there's just something special about this place that makes it feel like home.
